Round Table “Expediency of judiciary in cases involving public officials”

EC Ma Ndryshe today held the Round Table “Expediency of judiciary in cases involving public officials” within the Project “Online Transparency of the Municipalities of Prizren, Mamusha and Prishitina”, with the participation of the following panel members: Mr. Ymer Berisha, ZI – Municipality of Prizren; Mr. Arbër Rexhaj, Vetëvendosje Movement, Prizren; and Mr. Ismet Kryeziu, Executive Director, Democratic Institute of Kosovo. 

The participants in this Round Table discussed the dangers posed to the integrity of the Mayor post and the good governance principle at the local level by the public officials faced with judicial proceedings that take time to be resolved. In addition, opportunities were analyzed for the measures that can be undertaken to improve the efficiency of judiciary in processing the cases of public officials who have problems with the law.

Special emphasis was given to the Prizren Basic Court decision for Mayor, Muja, and negligence of judiciary when dealing with public officials, excessive prolongations of proceedings against the public officials, irrespective of promises given by justice authorities that the corruption and mismanagement cases shall be prioritized.
